Analog Devices to buy Empower Semiconductor for $1.5 billion to boost AI power portfolio

Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) is set to acquire Empower Semiconductor for approximately $1.5 billion in an all-cash transaction. The acquisition aims to strengthen Analog Devices' capabilities in high-density power delivery, particularly for artificial intelligence (AI) and other compute-intensive applications.

The deal is expected to advance power delivery solutions crucial for AI workloads, where power bottlenecks can pose challenges. Empower Semiconductor, a Silicon Valley-based startup, specializes in power management chips. The company manufactures voltage-regulating chips designed for AI processors and data centers.

This acquisition comes amid a significant increase in investment in data center infrastructure, driven by the demands of generative AI workloads. By integrating Empower Semiconductor's technology, Analog Devices seeks to enhance its offerings in this rapidly expanding market segment.

Bloomberg News previously reported that Analog Devices was in advanced discussions to acquire Empower Semiconductor, citing individuals familiar with the matter. The report also indicated that a deal could be announced as soon as Tuesday.

Analog Devices and Empower Semiconductor did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the transaction, according to The Economic Times.
